WG GRACE 2007

 

All Heydon Estate wines are the product of single vineyards with fruit estate grown on our old Wilyabrup property in the heart of the Margaret River appellation.

As usual, this wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from our prized old Cabernet vines planted in 1988, and known as A BLOCK. These vines are dry grown, affording maximum concentration of flavours.

The 2007 vintage was one of the earliest on record, with an early flying start to Spring.

The warm dry ripening period was ideal for perfect cabernet phenolic and flavour development.

The deep rooted old vines never stress.

2007 was a standout vintage for the Margaret River appellation.

A fine vintage indeed for us.

THE DOC 2006

 

All Heydon Estate wines are the product of single vineyards with fruit estate grown on our old Wilyabrup property in the heart of the Margaret River appellation.
As usual, this wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from our prized old Cabernet vines planted in 1988, and known as A BLOCK. These vines are dry grown, affording maximum concentration of flavours.
The 2006 vintage in Margaret River was unusually cool and wet, impeding ripening.
Whilst an outstanding vintage for our Chardonnay, all producers struggled to achieve optimum ripeness for later “reds”. Patience, for those willing, was rewarded however, but we have decided to re name this wine, being stylistically lighter, as “The DOC”. This of course, was the great WG’s nickname.

This wine is 92% Shiraz and 8% Viognier, from our old vines.
The 2009 vintage started slowly, but the rainfall in spring was just the tonic the vines needed. A long sunny and warm (but not excessively hot) ripening period in autumn, with cool nights, created very flavoursome wines with ripe tannins and good acid.
An exceptional vintage.
