CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2010
sub-region in the heart of the Margaret River appellation.
As customary, this wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from our prized old Cabernet vines planted in 1988 and known as A BLOCK. These vines are dry grown, affording maximum concentration of flavours.
The 2010 vintage was low yielding following adverse weather during the Spring months. The ripening period was however, warm and even, ideal for full flavour development and silky tannins of our reds. Our deep-rooted old vines never stress.
2010 was a stunning vintage for Margaret River appellation Cabernet.
VIGNERON GEORGE HEYDON’S COMMENTS
The wine displays an exquisite, deep brick red and purple colour.
The bouquet is typically complex. Blackberry, cassis and herbal elements are prominent, bay leaf integrates with alluring perfumes of fresh violets. Minerality, fine iron filing and cigar box notes exude depth.
The palate is long and balanced with the fruit intensity perfectly structured and integrated with the fine smooth tannins.
Another fine cabernet in a long linage from the Estate. The drinking window now ajar, in line with winery regime of bottle ageing prior to release.
Open fermented, then gently pumped over, with skins contact before being transferred to barrel for final fermentation, adding complexity. The wine has matured for 20 months in 100% French oak barriques, 60% new and 40% second use.
