All Heydon Estate wines are the product of single vineyards with fruit estate grown on our old Wilyabrup property in the heart of the Margaret River appellation.
This wine is 96% Shiraz and 4% Viognier from our old block of Shiraz and Viognier.
The 2011 vintage was terrific for reds with warm days and cool nights. Such is the quality and balance of our old blocks, full complex flavour development occurs whilst retaining the fruit intensity, classical long acidity and elegance that our wines are renowned for.
VIGNERON GEORGE HEYDON’S COMMENTS
Bright brick red and purple hues.
The bouquet is particularly generous and intense with a beguiling array of dark plum, mulberry, cherry, violets and spices of pepper and star anise. Coconut and vanillin aromas from fine oak use.
The palate is beautifully presented, intense and concentrated with silky fine tannins and a very long finish.
An exceptional example of Margaret River shiraz.
The fruit was handpicked on 7th April 2011. Fruit was fermented in an open fermenter with some extended skins contact and gentle pumping over. Maturation for 18 months in French and American oak barrels, 30% new and 70% second use.
