All Heydon Estate wines are the product of single vineyards with fruit estate grown on our old Wilyabrup property in the heart of the Margaret River appellation.
This wine is 100% Mendoza clone from our old Chardonnay block.
The 2010 vintage was terrific for Chardonnay with warm days and cool nights. Such is the quality and balance of our old Chardonnay block, full complex flavour development occurs whilst retaining the classical long acidity and elegance that “The Willow” is renowned for.
VIGNERON GEORGE HEYDON’S COMMENTS
Glowing yellow gold colour, bright and brilliant. The bouquet is focused with a fine minerality and chalkiness redolent of fine Chablis. Rich fruit salad, citrus blossom and nutty cereal aromas abound.
The palate is typically powerful and long, with a creaminess and balanced toasty oak character. Long crisp acid finish. Another beauty!
The fruit was handpicked on 27th February 2010.
Fruit was whole bunch pressed and fermented in barrel, with wild, indigenous natural yeast strains. Battonage for 2 months. 10% was allowed to undergo malolactic ferment providing textural complexity.
Maturation for 10 months in 100% French oak barrels, 50% new and 50% second use.
